I am going to start a blog about all the times I’ve compromised my beliefs.

My first story just happened.

This one is called, TMZ is the Devil:

So recently I’ve was asked to be filmed by TMZ to promote Oxfam (an organization that tries to find lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and injustices).

Strongly against associating myself with TMZ, PR explained that TMZ actually wanted to do good, having access to thousands of viewers.

Thinking,

“At least I know I tried everything I could to help this cause.  Sometimes you have to compromise your beliefs for the better good…”

I agreed to do it.

So I went to the Promenade in Venice, canvased the streets. 

They said to make a big scene so they’d have something to film, since people walking by were not really responding to talking and it could look exciting— so I started yelling.  Trying to get attention, to make it seem like a big thing.  Being obnoxious and loud.  We were also competing against street performers playing music, Firemen raising money for folks with cancer, a magician, etc…

TMZ came.  I had received money from a stranger in which I told him that his Jamba Juice cost 5 bucks and yet, 5 dollars could help feed a family for a week.  And then TMZ asked me what I was going to do with the money, and I said “Buy some cigarettes, then said, “Just kidding, donate it to Oxfam duh”. 

Immediately I thought,
“Oh fuck, what if they edit it so that I never explain that I am joking??” 

But then, thought,
“Nah, that’d be immature of them, PR trusts
TMZ and are trying to do good for once”.

I was wrong.  TMZ edited the clip so that I look like a nut-job
yelling which I don’t really care because I was pretty obnoxious and yelling.

However, I am disappointed in the humans working for TMZ, and with myself for not going with my instincts and now — I’ve associated myself with TMZ who have truly proved themselves to be immature and pathetic — making fun of something earnest and editing out the truth — to make an attempt to help people look dumb.

TMZ is already known for being inhumane stalking other human beings and exploiting them, but this is the opitomy of being numb to compassion toward a great cause that helps the less fortunate; Human beings in 3rd world countries dying, starving, born into poverty, who need our help…
